When it comes to arranging furniture there are many ways one can precede. That does not mean, however, that one can’t make some mistakes. While experts agree that the surest way to create a flawless room is through trial and error, there are a few rules you should keep in mind. Consider the following:
1. Hang Paintings or Mirrors in Relation to the Rest of the Furniture
Paintings or mirrors should ground everything around it. Don’t hang them too high. Typically place them around 24 to 36 inches above a piece of furniture, although that rule vary a bit depending on the height of the artwork or mirror itself.
2. Light Your Room Entirely
Lighting is one of the most essential elements in any space. Spread your light sources around a space and make sure every part of the room gets lit. If, for example, you have a lamp next to your bed, place two more strategically in the room to create a triangle of light.
3. The Coffee Table Should Be Big
Large coffee table, as with rugs, can help to expand and connect a room and an big coffee table contributes more to a room in terms of both aesthetics and function and aesthetics. The coffee table should be placed around 12 to 24 inches away from your sofa.
4. Go Big and Under with Area Rugs
Small rugs make a small room even smaller and they make a large room look disconnected. Your rugs look better when they’re bigger and all the furniture is on them. Place your rug underneath at least the first set of legs of your bed – or under your couch and chairs – to create a cohesive look.
5. The Higher the Curtains, the Better
Go high with your curtains! In many cases it’s best to hang them from the ceilings to the floors. This will make your ceilings appear a lot higher and it expands the room.” Curtains that are too small come off like an afterthought.
Several England Furniture sales representatives were recently recognized for their outstanding performance at the October International Furniture Market in High Point. Recipients of the various 2014 England Furniture Sales Awards were determined by such measurable criteria as sales volume, territory GP, and change from the previous reporting period. Other factors often considered were the ability of reps to resolve dealer issues and demonstration of a positive work ethic.
England Furniture is fortunate to have an excellent group of men and woman who are dedicated to being the professional connection between the England Furniture factory and the retail outlet. “All our reps deserve some level of recognition,” said Otis Sawyer, President of England, “but, when benchmarks are applied, understandably, the ones with the most impressive stats gravitate to the top.”
In addition to the regular sales awards, England Furniture also annually awards one individual in their sales force who best exemplifies the values held by England Furniture founder, Arnold Dwight England. The award, the “Mr. D Award,” is arguably the most coveted plaque presented each year. The Trailblazer Award was also awarded this year. This award recognizes and individuals ability to grow in a territory despite challenging circumstances. This exceptional award went to our Northern California representative.
The 2014 England Furniture Sales Awards were awarded to the following persons:
Cam Morgan, NC (Small Territory)
Josh Weeks, CO and parts of NE and WY (Medium Territory)
Jim Emerson, ND, SD, MN and Northern Iowa (Large Territory)
Phil Johnson, KS and MO and parts of Iowa and Nebraska (“Mr. D” Award)
Dolly Ponta, Northern California (Trailblazer Award)

On September 18, 2014, England Furniture vendors, suppliers, employees, and sales reps will join with those who generally love golf and will gather at the Woodlake Golf Resort in Tazewell, TN, to take part in the England Furniture 25th Annual ADE Golf Scramble.
The monies generated by the golfing event will be placed in the ADE Foundation, an entity created to disperse funds to charities that seek the good of the local community. Previous recipients have included the American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity, Walter State Community College scholarships, and The Alpha School. Funds from the England Furniture Annual ADE Golf Scrambles have helped those affected by weather related catastrophes, they assisted in buying school supplies for elementary school students, and the funds generated have helped with the distribution of Christmas baskets to local under-privileged persons. Funds are used to aid the local community and whether they are given to employees or non-employees.
On Thursday, September 18, teams will gather at the Woodlake for two rounds of golf. Lunch will be provided and prizes will be awarded at the end of round two. For half of England Furniture’s existence, this event has been held in late summer to provide a day of friendly competition with industry friends, while, at the same time, assuring that funds will be available to help individuals in our community.
Many thanks to the loyal patrons who supported the Arnold Dwight England Golf Scramble year after year! Fore!
The seating surface of a sofa always receives the most wear and the seating area is composed of two components: the spring system and the seat cushion. The spring system is usually constructed from a series of interconnected springs designed to support the seat cushions. Some furniture manufacturers cut corners by using wide loop springs.
England Furniture offers our customers “Coil Core.” Coil Core is made up of heavy gauge tornado coils which create a resilient spring foundation. Coil Core provides an extra level of support, it allows for years of use and it can only be found in offerings from England Furniture. Coil Core is perfect for those consumers who desire an extra level of support and for older individuals who have difficulties getting up from a seating position.
